The Problem
There is no incentive to maintain or invest in fog harvesting as a sustainable water source. The non-business oriented initiatives thus far have proven to be unsuccessful because they rely on outside sources for funding and the locals simply are not incentivized to contribute. Why would these communities want to work for access to a basic human right such as drinking water? It has been confirmed that fog can be a viable solution to water scarcity in select regions of the world, but to accomplish this goal we must raise international awareness of this method and provide livelihood to people in fog rich areas. The Solution
We are an international team with an international solution. We propose a glass bottled water business called ‘Fogua: clean water from fresh air’. We will distribute fog water to high-end niche markets throughout the world and provide business and an extra water source for these disadvantaged rural communities. The community members will become more invested in the longevity of fog harvesting as a solution and will have the business incentive to maintain the water supply materials. Supporting Fogua supports the small communities that collect the water. It helps create employment and water collection opportunities worldwide.
